ARLINGTON HEIGHTS HOLIDAY EVENTS

December 1-21 - Holiday Decoration Contest
    We award prizes to 1st, 2nd, & 3rd most-beautifully-decorated homes and the most-beautifully-decorated block.
    Any home in our neighborhood is eligible. Judge Pattie DeLoatche announces awards on Sunday night, December 22.

Friday, December 20, 6:30 p.m. - Holiday Caroling Party (note change of date)
    Meet at TJ east parking lot, near intersection of 2nd and Irving Streets
    Bring your family and friends and come out to enjoy a wonderful holiday tradition.
    Dress warmly and bring a flashlight or candle. We will provide song sheets and musical accompaniment

Saturday, December 14, 5 pm - Living Nativity,
    featuring angels, chorale singing, shepherds, and live sheep
    at Arlington United Methodist Church (716 S. Glebe, 703-979-7527)

Arlington United Methodist Church and Ethiopian Community Development Center (1038 S. Highland, 703-685-0510)
    distribute Christmas toys to needy families. To brighten a child's life, drop off unwrapped toys, stuffed animals,
    and Educational games in good condition to AUMC by December 12 or to ECDC by December 16. Thank you.

Thursday, December 12, 7 pm - Thomas Jefferson Middle School Winter Music Concert in the auditorium

December 6-12 - Thomas Jefferson Book Fair in the library, 8:10 am - 2:30 pm, also during and after Winter Concert

Monday, December 16 - Patrick Henry Elementary School holiday concert - 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm in the gym

"Arlington Heights Neighborhood" t-shirts and sweatshirts are now on sale for holiday gift-giving! (These shirts are patterned after our neighborhood signs.) We have plenty of t-shirts for adults and children, but only a limited number of sweatshirts. Shirts range from $7-12; sweatshirts are $15-17. Contact Joan Gill (703-685-1760, jgill@erols.com)

Congregation Votes to Change Name
    At its memberbership meeting October 18, Arlington-Fairfax Jewish Congregation voted to change its name to Congregation Etz Hayim, ("tree of life" in Hebrew).
    On Sunday mornings at 10:30 am in December and January, the congregation offers five free lectures open to the public, with free bagels, featuring Rabbi Emeritus Marvin Bash, on "What's New in the New Conservative Humash: Etz Hayim. (The Humash is the Old Testament, the Five Books of Moses.) His topic December 8 was "Early Hebrew Bible Manuscripts and the Masoretes."
