Streetlights Management Plan
Arlington County
Dear Mr. Neupane,
Thank you for managing Arlington's streetlight project, in particular its efforts to convert the higher 4000 Kelvin blue bulbs into a more aesthetic and safe 3000 Kelvin bulb. Various members of the Arlington Heights Civic Association have expressed their serious concerns about the blue 4000K lights that are currently in our lampposts. Residents have noticed that the lights contribute to migraine headaches and loss of sleep, and that they prevent people from sitting on their porches or enjoying evening and early morning exercise outside. Our residents are also alarmed by the American Medical Association (AMA) warnings about the blue LED streetlights.
In response to these concerns, the Arlington Heights Civic Association voted unanimously on May 14, 2019, to pass the following resolution, requesting Arlington County to update the bulbs in all the lampposts in Arlington Heights to a safer, AMA-approved bulb:
Arlington Heights Civic Association
RESOLUTION FOR THE HEALTH OF RESIDENTS
Adopted at its quarterly open meeting on May 14, 2019"In consideration the 2016 American Medical Association report that warns of the health hazards of the high Kelvin 'first generation' LED street lighting—both to the human population and to the nocturnal animal population—the residents of Arlington Heights hereby request that Arlington County replace the outdated 'first generation' LED street light bulbs in lampposts throughout Arlington Heights with the newer, safer 3000 Kelvin LED bulbs—the highest Kelvin approved by the AMA."
In consideration of the health of its residents, Arlington Heights is grateful to the Arlington County government for accomplishing this project as soon as possible. Please let me know how soon we can expect the new bulbs in Arlington Heights.
Thank you very much for your time and attention to this important health issue and for your service to the county.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kristi Rupert Sawert
President
Arlington Heights Civic Association
