Arlington County Board
November 2, 2005
Mr. Adam Croswell, President
Arlington Heights Civic Association
3313 South 5th Street
Arlington, Virginia 22204
Dear Mr. Croswell:
Thank you for your letter on behalf of the Arlington Heights Civic Association regarding two resolutions that were passed at your July meeting related to the public outdoor space at Thomas Jefferson Middle School. I appreciate you taking the time to bring the concerns of yourself and your neighbors to the Board’s attention.
I asked the County Manager’s Office to investigate and report back to me on this matter, and received the attached report. Please note that, according to the report, although the current lighting at the Thomas Jefferson Middle School track is considered standard for pedestrian usage, this request for improved lighting could be considered during the development of the Fiscal Year 2007-2012 Capital Improvements Program. For more information on this process, you can contact Kurt Louis in the Parks and Natural Resources Division at 703-228-7754.
Your second resolution raised safety concerns for the quality of the surface of the rectangular sports field. According to the report, staff has sprayed the surface with the water truck during periods where we are experiencing long periods without rain to try to lessen the amounts of dust from the surface. However, documentation is available in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources that verifies that the surface does not contain harmful properties. I hope this information is helpful to you. If you would like to request a copy of the documentation, please contact Pete Feheley in the Sports Division at 703-228-1819.
I hope the members of the Arlington Heights Civic Association will continue to enjoy the use of the track and field at the middle school. Again, thank you for writing. If I can help in the future, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,
/s/
Jay Fisette
Chairman
